Letter from the Editor

God never ceases to amaze. Just when I am determined that my circumstances have control on how I feel or what I do, the Holy Spirit reminds me that Jesus was raised from the dead so that I may have life and have it abundantly. Hallelujah! When we can pull our heads out of the sand, we realize that each day, each moment, and every instance is a reason to celebrate.

Speaking of celebrating, today is literally the five year anniversary of the Cupbearer Café opening in downtown Auburn. Wow, it was like yesterday that Denny and Cheryl Myers, the former owners of the café, sat me down at a local donut shop and said, “We feel like the Lord wants us to give you the Cupbearer.” What!! I didn’t know anything about coffee except how to make a chain-gang mocha (coffee & hot chocolate). In fact, the day we opened on May 5, 2012 I had to run the register because I didn’t even know how to make the drinks. Wild! But what an incredible vehicle the Cupbearer Café has been to reach folks with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Average stops for coffee or a mocha turn into prayer times for hurt and salvation. Thank you, Jesus!

We experience many seasons with Inspiration Ministries, but one that has not come yet is a slow one. God has us on the move. My wife, Kirsten, and I don’t just know how to spin as many plates as possible without them all falling. The truth is, without the empowering of the Holy Spirit, we probably wouldn’t even know what direction is up. And in pure Foster fashion, we don’t just have another kid this first half of the year, we welcome Anthony James while buying or first house, buying another house for transition here in the community, and facilitating Celebrate Recovery every week. Praise the Lord, we are still standing, by the grace of God. It’s only the beginning of May! Hold on to your hats the rest of 2017.

You didn’t read wrong; if you weren’t aware, our son is now three months old. What a joy to see him grow before our very eyes, especially since I got to see him the second he hit the light, literally. I got to catch my son during the birth. It was incredible. Lilly loves her little brother. She loves to say, “I love you, Daddy. I love you, Mommy. I love you, Brother.” She is so precious and about the coolest thing I have ever experienced. We have enjoyed our growing family. It is a lot of work, especially for my wonderful wife. She loves being a mom, and she does great for having two that are constantly calling for her attention.

You also heard right, Kirsten and I are buying a house. That in itself is a miracle. After five years of prison, I didn’t think I would ever be in a position to own a house or be financially stable. God has been so gracious through this experience. We are excited to be homeowners. Now, I will admit, I am probably way more excited than Kirsten simply because we are buying a fixer-upper. And I don’t mean a little work, I am talking major work. An old HUD house sitting on five acres with a huge pole barn. We get to be in the country and close to the café and ministry at the same time. That is pretty cool. The renovation starts sometime in the next couple weeks. You can pray for that with us.

Inspiration Ministries is proud to present the PlusONE Program. First off, the ONE is capitalized because it represents Jesus. The program is developed to meet some very real needs in the community, but only with the understanding that without Jesus, it really doesn’t mean a hill of beans in the long run. Our goal is to turn people’s seasons of transition into times of transformation. Without the ONE who has the power to transform, we are only able to temporarily change our behavior. There can be no heart change. If fact, God not only changes our lives, but He exchanges our lives for Jesus’. We no longer live, but it is Christ that lives in us. He did not just change our hearts, He removed them and replaced them with hearts that could feel, respond, and worship the Creator. Hallelujah!

As a part of the PlusONE Program, we are connecting with men and women in our community who are searching for the answer in their situation. We are blessed to be tell them that it is Jesus. Trusting in Jesus will create ripples in our lives that will not only affect us, but also the people around us.

You might not remember the name Chad, but he was one of the first people to say yes to Jesus at a coffee table five years ago. Chad has experienced incredible victories and heartbreaking struggles. I remember Chad used to pray that God wouldn’t change everything about him because there were things that he really liked about himself. Watching my friend lose the battle to addiction time and time again was gut-wrenching. Alas, my friends, God has been victorious! Chad is not only a man that we have had the blessing to serve as a ministry, but he is personal friend that God is transforming. Chad’s abounding spirit and out-loud personality for Jesus is something that fills our café and hearts with Christ’s joy. There are many words to describe Chad and perfect isn’t one of them. However, He is a child of the King, a joint-heir with Christ, and a minister of the Gospel to those that are looking to allow God to make some changes.

We are enjoying our time of renovation on the PlusONE House. We were blessed with a good price on the house. Besides remodeling the bathroom, it has been mostly cosmetic things like paint and flooring. We are proud to introduce James as our house manager, a man with a tremendous testimony of transformation after four stints in prison. Absolutely amazing!

Until next time, please know that we are praying for you. We love you, and you are not forgotten. Jesus wants to transform your life exactly where you are for His glory to be seen. Remember this: Satan knows our name and calls us by our sin, but Jesus knows our sin and calls us by our name. Hallelujah!

Be inspired by Him,
