My name is Richard Squint, I’m 35 years old, and for 23 of those years I was addicted to drugs. I started using when I was just 12 years old and spent much of my life in and out of treatment facilities and prison systems. I tried almost everything to overcome my addiction, and eventually I came to believe that I was incurable. At one point, I truly thought there was no hope left for me.
One day, while reading a book, I came across a line that said, “You never know what you’ve got until God is all you’ve got.” That hit me hard. I was at the end of the road. I had hit rock bottom, and God was all I had left. Looking back now, I see that God was always there, even when I felt like I couldn’t reach Him. I had always known about God, but I didn’t truly know Him. I overdosed three times and was brought back to life. There were countless moments when I should have been dead, and I never understood why I was still here.
Then I decided to try something different. I chose a faith-based program. God led me to Inspiration Ministries, and that decision changed everything. For most of my life, I believed I was nobody and that my life had no purpose. But God showed me that I am somebody. He gave me purpose, taught me how to love myself, and showed me how to become a better man. I now know what it feels like to love and to be loved. God has restored my family, and most importantly, He has restored me.
Today, I live with gratitude. I am thankful, blessed, and worthy because of Christ. God has given me a life worth living, and I thank Him every day for leading me to Inspiration Ministries. I am grateful to Jesus for dying on the cross and giving a sinner like me a second chance at life. I see life differently now. I have joy, peace of mind, and a real, solid relationship with God. I put Him first and trust that He will lead me in the right direction. I’ve learned to forgive as He has forgiven me.
If God can do this for me, He can do it for anyone. We are not lost causes. We are somebody. We are children of God. Even when you think He’s not there, trust me, He is. God is faithful, gracious, and always at work. Through Him, all things are possible.
